Appendix 2G. BRENNEN FAMILIES

DUBLIN AND ENGLAND FAMILY:

  1. John Brennen was born in Monaghan about 1857 and married Lydia Cooke born in Dublin about 1861. At the time of the 1901 Census, they were living at 7 Upper Mercer Street, Dublin, with their seven children. In that census, John is described as a general labourer and Lydia as a housekeeper. However, by the time of the 1911 Census they had moved, possibly to Belfast. John died prior to 1915. The children of John and Lydia Brennen:
    1. Rachel Brennen was born in Dublin about 1884. In the 1901 Census she is listed as a 17-year-old coffee packer.
    2. Esther Brennen was born in Dublin about 1886. In the 1901 Census she is listed as a 15-year-old coffee packer.
    3. Janey Brennen was born in Dublin about 1888. In the 1901 Census she is listed as a 13-year-old scholar.
    4. Lydia Brennen was born in Dublin about 1889. In the 1901 Census she is listed as a 12-year-old scholar. Lydia moved to Liverpool with her brother John sometime between 1901 and 1911.
    5. Maggie Brennen was born in Dublin about 1892. In the 1901 Census she is listed as a 9 years old.
    6. John Robert Brennen was born in Dublin on Dec.21, 1894, and was living with his parents and sisters at 7 Upper Mercer Street at the time of the 1901 Census in which he is listed as 6 years old. Prior to 1911 he moved to Liverpool with his sister Lydia and was married in 1915. His grandson is William Humphreys of Norfolk, England.
