RECORDS OF BALLYNAHINCH PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The records of the Ballynahinch Presbyterian Church and other records contain the following references to Palmers (other than the marriages and births listed elsewhere):
- Dec.3, 1701. Jane Palmer witnesses the marriage of Robert Smith and Margaret Kelly in Ballynahinch Presbyterian Church.
- Jan.1, 1722. Adam Palmer, senior, of Magheradrool received 1 shilling and 1 pence in financial assistance from Ballynahinch Presbyterian Church.
- May 5, 1729. Widow Palmer of Magheradrool received 10 pence in financial assistance from Ballynahinch Presbyterian Church.
- 1740. Will of John Palmer of Magheratimpany was probated.
- 1829. Will of Adam Palmer of Ballymaglave was probated.
- 1852. Will of James Palmer of Drumgavelin dated 1852 and lodged 1855.
- 1863. From Griffith Valuation: Adam Palmer of Ballymacarn leases house and 10 acres from David S. Ker and leases house to Jane Allison. Also Anne Palmer of Ballymaglave South leased a house and 6 acres from David S. Ker. Also James Palmer of Ballymaglave South leased a house and 8 acres from David S. Ker. Also John Palmer of Ballymacarn South leased a house and 22 acres from David S. Ker.
- 1874. Robert Palmer, a single bootmaker from County Down aged 31, left London on Nov.2, 1874, aboard the ``Dilharree'' and arrived in Auckland, New Zealand, on Jan.16, 1875.

WILLS
- The Will of Adam Palmer late of Portavogie County Down Farmer deceased who died 22 April 1880 at same place was proved at Belfast by Lucy Palmer of Portavogie Widow one of the Executors. Adam's will was signed with a mark on 18th Apr., 1880. Probate was granted on May 2, 1881, to widow Lucy Palmer and on her death to his son Adam Palmer reserving the rights of brother Robert Palmer. Witnesses were Francis Brandon and John Donnan.
- The will of Adam Palmer of Portavogie, farmer, who died 27 October 1905, effects £243 17s. 6d, probate granted at Belfast to Agnes Maxwell. He left all his farm to his son John who was in Downpatrick Lunatic Asylum until he was able to cope. He also left ten pounds to daughter Elizabeth Palmer and 50 pounds to his daughter Agnes Maxwell. His executors were John Palmer, Portavogie, farmer and brother John Palmer, Portavogie, carpenter.

NEWTOWNARDS CHRONICLE, 1890
The following appeared in the Newtownards Chronicle in 1890:
Dec.13, 1890. On Thursday, District Inspector Winder and about 20 members of the Constabulary travelled from various stations in the Ards, proceeded to Portavogie -- to an eviction -- the parties evicted were two brothers named Palmer by their two sisters -- their father died without a will and the sons took possession of the farm.

With friend Samuel McVeigh, a 21-year-old single carpenter from Portavogie, the son of James McVeigh of Portavogie, he was bound for Kansas City. They were accompanied by Robert Keag, a 19-year-old single laborer from Rubane, the son of Adam Keag of Rubane, Kircubbin, who was bound for Chicago.
- Agnes Palmer, 29-year-old married woman from Portavogie, the daughter of Hugh Mahood of Portavogie, arrived in New York on Nov.3, 1913, aboard the ``Columbia'' from Londonderry. She was bound for St.Louis, MO.
- Samuel and Sara Palmer, 28 and 26, a carpenter and his wife, from Ballyhalbert and Kircubbin, son of Samuel Palmer of Shore Street, Ballyhalbert, arrived in New York on Feb.7, 1914, aboard the ``Lusitania'' from Liverpool. James McWatters was born in 1720 in Cork, Ireland, when his father, William McWatters, was 30 and his mother, Mary Ann Lemon (Aikens), was 27. James had one son and one daughter with his first wife. He then married Catherine Frances ?? and they had six children together. He died in 1790 in York, South Carolina, at the age of 70. James and Catherine had 7 sons and one daughter. One son Alexander McWatters was born in 1740, and died on August 30, 1828, in Fairfield, South Carolina, having lived a long life of 88 years.
